Addendum Teacher Job Description

For Speech Pathologist

Definition:

Performs skilled/professional-level tasks under limited supervision to provide children/students with deficits in articulation, language fluency and voice

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates students who exhibit mild-moderate-severe deficits in speech/language areas.

  • Plans, prepares and establishes appropriate written individual education programs for qualified students.

  • Implements programs

  • Reassesses and revises program as students’ status changes.

  • Orients, trains and supervises professional and non-professional staff in the appropriate therapy needed to integrate services.

  • Confers and makes recommendations regarding augmentative communication devices.

  • Provides periodic verbal and written reports and participates in eligibility, IEP and placement team meetings when appropriate.

  • Serves as a consultant to regular classroom teachers regarding speech/language related services for IEP students in regular class.

  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, materials available and needs and capabilities of the child.

  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

  • Assists in the selection, and inventory of books, equipment and other instructional materials.

  • Completes reports and other school related paperwork as required.

  • Accepts the responsibility and arrives punctually for activities and duties as assigned.

  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress.

  • Is actively involved in professional growth activities.

  • Creates an effective therapy room environment that is conducive to learning and to the developmental levels and interests of students within the limits of the resources of the district.

  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of the IEP goals and, in harmony with these goals, establishes clear objectives and communicates these objectives to students.

  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct; and for the therapy room, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure; and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
