Position: Library Media Specialist
Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree from an accredited college/university.
Current Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Library Media Services.
Primary Purpose:
To ensure fulfillment of the school’s mission by planning, developing and coordinating an exemplary program of library media services and activities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Comply with School Board Policy.
Follow requirements as outlined Federal, State, and District professional development.
Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the district philosophy, goals and objectives as outlined in Oklahoma and District Standards.
Organize the library; books, online resources, and equipment for easy accessibility by students and staff.
Supervise Library Assistant in carrying out duties as listed in job description.
Supervise activities in the library.
Supervise the circulation of books, audio, computer software, and equipment.
Coordinate the evaluation and selection of books, audio computer software and equipment for the library according to the State Dept. of Education recommendations.
Follow guidelines for timely completion of orders using funds allocated to the library.
Complete library inventory of all holdings when required.
Provide instructions to any new staff member on how to use technology equipment.
Collaborate with teachers, giving suggestions concerning materials to be used to enrich, reinforce, and extend the classroom curriculum.
Process and catalog materials as directed by the procedures manual from the State Department of Education utilizing the library’s computerized program.
Prepare and file all necessary reports as requested.
Instruct students and staff in use of the online public access catalog (OPAC).
Plan, provide and maintain interactive projects and activities that teach literature and informational literacy and/or enrich classroom instruction.
Provide storytelling and book talk experiences.
Inform students and staff of new resources available in the library.
Actively support and participate in local, state and national library and educational organizations.
Respects the privacy of confidential matters relative to students, patrons and personnel.
Use good judgment at all times.
Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Share responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.
Provide for the supervision of assigned students when circumstances require a brief absence from the assignment.
Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules, regulations, and is supportive of them to the public.
Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
Work cooperatively with parents/guardians/caregivers to strengthen the educational program for their children.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other staff members.
Continued professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
Cooperate with the administration in planning appropriate in-service training programs at a school or at the district level.
Administers budgets of library media resources.
Evaluate accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods such as teacher made tests, samples of students’ work, mastery skills checklists, criterion-referenced tests and norm-referenced tests.
Make appropriate adjustments in the instructional program and as required by the principal.
Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
Use good judgment at all times.
Prepare for and demonstrates an understanding of distance learning strategies and/or virtual days including but not limited to establishing a Google Classroom and providing instruction utilizing Google Meet.
Actively participates in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
Assist in the implementation of District Initiatives including but not limited to the District Strategic Plan.
Demonstrates respect and dignity in the workplace.
Promote and support the use of technology for teaching, learning, and research.
Guide students and staff in the ethical and effective use of information and technology.
Maintain and troubleshoot library-related technology, such as digital databases and learning platforms.
Other Job Functions:
To complete other tasks that may be necessary to achieve an efficient operation of the school.
